Lex McMenamin

 

is a writer, editor, and general hellraiser. They report on protest movements and community organizing for the Guardian US, and think and write about politics, identity, movements, and culture. Lex is an American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) and GLAAD Award nominee, and a member of the Trans Journalists Association. They use they/them pronouns.

Their political coverage has been published by outlets including the Cut, the BBC, The Intercept, The Nation, and The New Republic, and their culture writing has been published by Them, i-D, Vulture, The FADER, Alternative Press, Bitch Media, and more.

Previously, Lex was Teen Vogue’s politics editor and writer, where they were recognized with Roosevelt Institute’s Freedom of Speech and Expression Award in 2025 for their “crucial political coverage,” “fill[ing] a crucial gap in today’s media landscape.”

Lex has appeared widely in the media to discuss their work, including on cable television, NPR, podcasts, and more, in addition to a frequent event panelist. They are available for college class visits, workshop facilitation, and consultation around their coverage areas, and accept commissions.

Lex is at work on a book proposal about their time as an anti-sexual violence organizer, #MeToo, and how abolitionist feminisms combat rape culture. They hold a Master of Arts in Creative Publishing and Critical Journalism from the New School for Social Research.
